737 flight preparation terms
- Technical log
- The aircraft's live record of defects, maintenance action and current condition.
- MEL (minimum equipment list)
- Allows dispatch with specified equipment inoperative, under stated conditions and time limits.
- CDL (configuration deviation list)
- Allows dispatch with permitted missing secondary structure or fairings.
- Taxi fuel
- From engine and APU start through taxi, before take-off.

- Alternate fuel
- From a missed approach at the destination to landing at the alternate.
- Final reserve fuel
- 30 minutes of holding at 1,500 ft above aerodrome elevation in standard conditions.
- Operational flight plan
- The planned route, fuel and timings that the loaded FMC data is checked against.
- Loadsheet
- The final load information that the weight entries are compared with.

How are flight-preparation duties commonly divided before movement?
737 flight preparation questions
What are the five fuel components in flight planning?
Taxi fuel, trip fuel, contingency fuel, alternate fuel and final reserve fuel. Each covers a different part of the flight with its own start and end point.
How much is final reserve fuel?
Thirty minutes of holding at 1,500 ft above aerodrome elevation in standard conditions. It is a protected floor, not fuel planned to be used.
How is contingency fuel calculated?
Normally the greater of five percent of planned trip fuel or five minutes of holding at 1,500 ft above the destination, unless another approved method is used.
What is the MEL in aviation?
The Minimum Equipment List permits dispatch with specified equipment temporarily inoperative, but only with its stated limitations, procedures and repair time limits applied.
