About the DGCA Meteorology paper

Aviation Meteorology is one of the written papers every candidate clears for the DGCA Commercial Pilot Licence and Airline Transport Pilot Licence. It is a multiple-choice paper, DGCA sets the pass mark at 70 percent, and there is no negative marking, so every question is worth attempting. A subject pass stays valid for five years, and candidates wait 30 days between attempts at the same paper.

The syllabus runs from the structure of the atmosphere, pressure, density and temperature, through humidity, adiabatics and atmospheric stability, winds and the general circulation, clouds and precipitation, thunderstorms, icing, turbulence and windshear, air masses, fronts and occlusions, visibility and fog, and global and Indian climatology, to the practical work of decoding METARs and TAFs and reading significant weather and wind charts. The Indian monsoon, western disturbances and nor'westers come up often and are worth specific revision.
